It's describing the path of the sun: it starts in the east, over the ocean(moana), it comes to over head (nu'u), rising up (aia ka la)>(the musical note is suppose to raise in pitch to symbolize that ascension), E ALA E : (That's the way it is) This Is _ The Way _ [that] This Is; Is Path Is, Be Way Be, I Am the way I Am... etc.

Take Care of One Another
When I was growing up I learned about how sacred Poi is from our kupuna. I learned that in old Hawaii when people were talking at a meal and two people began to argue a kupuna would place the Poi between the two arguing.
They would stop the fighting, so to not argue over the Poi and disrespect it.
After we learned this our ohana/family would do the same thing at home. My parents would put the Poi between us. Or we would do it ourselves.
